COVID-19 Update (May 17, 2020)

The Play Société Toy Library is here to support you in these unprecedented times. Each member family will be dealing with their own set of unique circumstances, so we are offering as much flexibility as possible with your membership.

According to the WHO and CDC, transmission of the novel coronavirus from surfaces to persons has not been documented, but it is believed the virus may persist on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days.  Out of an abundance of caution, The Play Société has implemented new policies and procedures around toy sanitization and use of the Toy Library.

When toys return to the library they are inspected, cleaned, and steam sanitized (as always), and as they leave the shelves for delivery they are cleaned (as always), steamed (new!), and inspected (as always). 

After inspection, cleaning, and sanitizing – any toys returned to the library will not be made available for immediate loan.  Instead, they will be segregated from the remainder of the toys for at least 7 days.

The Play Société always requires toys to be returned cleaned to the library (no visible dirt/debris), and until further notice, all members must also disinfect toys before they are returned to the library.  This can be accomplished with any disinfecting solution and cloth (like a Lysol wipe).  If you are unable to disinfect before pick-up, inform us right away.

If any of the following apply to you, your little ones, or members of your household, usage of the Toy Library will be restricted.

 –           Travel outside Canada in the last 14 days

–           Any symptoms indicative of COVID-19 (fever, cough, difficulty breathing, etc)

–           Have been tested for COVID-19 with positive or pending results

 The Play Société will extend membership expirations for any families affected by the current situation.

We want to deliver fun to as many little ones as possible during these unprecedented times, which means more time spent building reservations and less time spent driving. The toy library is based in York Region, so new membership sign-ups will be limited to residents of York Region and immediate surrounding areas. If there are multiple requests for memberships in other areas, the delivery area may be expanded. Message us if you are interested in delivery outside York Region. Delivery for existing members will continue regardless of location.

Constant monitoring of guidance from health authorities and governments will continue. Any necessary changes to the above policies and procedures will be communicated directly to members and updated on the website.

Do you only have toys?
In addition to our large selection of toy and games, we also lend kid gear like pack’n’plays, high chairs, and other useful equipment. These items are great for out of town visitors and grandparent visits! Choose the ‘Gear’ filter on our inventory to browse.

Signing up & Reservations

How do I sign up?
  1. Select ‘Create Account
  2. Enter your details and accept the Membership Agreement (view agreement here)
  3. Choose your membership level and process payment
  4. Fill Out Account Info (address is mandatory for delivery)
  5. To fully activate your account you need to confirm your email address by following the instructions sent to the email address you used when signing up.
  6. Once your account set-up is approved (typically within 24 business hours), you will receive a welcome email from us with lots of helpful details, including your delivery schedule.

How do I select my toys?
  1. Log into your account and click on the ‘Inventory’ button
  2. Filter or search for your desired item
  3. Click the ‘Reserve’ button on any picture for a quick cart start, or click the picture for more details (description, calendar of availability, etc).
  4. Once ‘Reserve’ has been clicked a calendar will be displayed.
    -Select your desired start and end dates using the personalized delivery schedule that was sent to you when you signed up.
  5. Click ‘Start’. Don’t worry if you select the wrong dates, we will see it and make the corrections for you.
  6. Once you place one item in the cart, it will remain open for adding other items.
  7. When you are finished adding all your items, review your cart by selecting the ‘cart’ button.
  8. If you are happy with your cart, click ‘Submit Reservation’.
  9. You will receive an email confirming your reservation details.
I don't see the "Reserve" button to add toys to my cart

This means you’ve signed up for an account, but haven’t yet selected or paid for a membership.

  1. Go to My Profile (click on top right menu with your username)
  2. Click on ‘Membership’
  3. Choose your membership level and process payment
  4. Fill Out Account Info (address is mandatory for delivery)
  5. Click on ‘Inventory’ and now you will see the ‘Reserve’ button.
When should I select my toys?

You can add toys to your cart and submit the reservation up to two days before your scheduled delivery. We will send you a reminder email when the reservation period is about the end.

Can I reserve toys past my next delivery date?

Yes! You can submit multiple reservations at any time as long as the dates don’t overlap. Simply reserve items in the cart for your desired future date and submit the reservation. If you change your mind later you can cancel the reservation.

When do I get my toys?

Once you sign up, you will receive confirmation of your delivery (or pick-up) schedule. Larger or higher value items may require a separate delivery. If this is the case, we will contact you and find a time that works best.

What happens if I forget to select my toys by the deadline?
If you don’t select your toys by the deadline, we won’t deliver any new ones. However, if you have items checked out, you will still need to return them.
My child wants to keep a toy! What do I do?
Great! We are so happy we helped your child find a treasured toy. If you can’t find a replacement in-store or online, you are welcome to keep it! Send us an email to tell us that you intend to keep the item. We will confirm the replacement cost and charge it to the card we have on file for your membership.
What happens if we lose or break a toy?

Life happens! If an item is lost or broken, let us know as soon as you can.  We will confirm the replacement cost and charge it to the card we have on file for your membership.

When will you deliver to my area?

Currently, FREE home delivery every two weeks (3 toys per reservation) is included for residents of York Region, Ontario, Canada.

Pick-up options are available for anyone who’d like to become a member but lives outside that areas.

Contact us to ask about special delivery arrangements and pick-up options, or sign up for our mailing list and be the first to find out when we begin delivery to your area.

How do I know the items are safe and clean?

Each item in our inventory is meticulously cleaned, sanitized, and inspected before delivery.

The Play Société’s hardest working team member is our heavy duty steam cleaner.   ‘Mr. Clean’ (as he is fondly known) works overtime to remove dirt and stains while killing 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, pathogens, and other undesirables with chemical free, super-heated steam.

For any items that can’t be steam cleaned, we have a full line-up of effective, child-safe products to get the job done.
